Hotel Review: The Serras Barcelona

Our recent weekend trip to Barcelona was my Christmas gift for A and I chose The Serras, a new boutique hotel I’d heard fabulous things about. And as it turns out, the praise was more than justified. We spent three sunny days in the city and The Serras definitely felt like a home away from home.

In the heart of Barcelona

The Serras is a hidden gem in the city center

When it comes to the wide range of hotels in Barcelona The Serras is a hidden gem in the heart of the city. It’s located at the edge of the Gothic Quarter overlooking Port Vell. We loved that El Born as well as the beach were just minutes away and we could explore the city by foot. A fun fact which is reflected in some of the black and white photographs on the wall is, that the hotel building was home to Pablo Picasso’s first studio in Barcelona.

Laidback but luxurious

Serras Hotel Barcelona Design

I fell in love with the chic interior design of The Serras

A and I both loved the informal vibe of the hotel. With just 30 rooms it feels like a small but luxurious hideaway in the city. We arrived on a late friday afternoon and were greeted with a sparkling glass of cava. Check-in took quite a while but staff was extremely friendly so we didn’t mind the wait. We got a short tour of the hotel before we were escorted to our Grand Deluxe Room. The room was very luminous and spacious and had a cute little balcony. I liked the modern and chic decor and felt at home immediately – especially after finding out how comfortable the bed is!

The room came with the most comfortable king size bed

The all-white bathroom was huge with a rain shower and a spacious double sink. I loved the attention to detail, from the fancy amenities by Malin & Goetz to the high-quality hairdryer.

As part of our welcome package we received a bottle of catalan cava as well as some snacks, which was a nice touch. Additionally the room offered a Nespresso machine and complimentary turn-down service with water and a different kind of desert – yes desert! – each night.

Boutique Breakfast

The Serras Barcelona Breakfast

Most delicious breakfast in town

We had breakfast included in our rate and oh boy I loved it. It was probably the best hotel breakfast I’d ever had in Barcelona. Again, the love to detail was fantastic and the team was so friendly. In addition to a small buffet we could order a la carte choices – from eggs to paninis to sweeter options – and were brought the most delicious fresh fruit, juices and pastries to our table. There is hardly any better way to start a day.

Rooftop vibes

The Serras has a sunny rooftop with a small pool and a nice lounge and bar area (pictured at the top of this post). We spent part of our sunday afternoon there, sipping some ice-cold drinks and listening to the DJ’s chill-out tunes. We took in the nice views of Port Vell, the ocean and the W Hotel before leaving to catch our plane back home.

Passport & Palmtree conclusion

If you are looking for a laidback boutique hotel and stylish hideaway in the center of Barcelona, The Serras Hotel is your perfect choice. We will definitely be back!
Have you been to Barcelona recently? What is your favourite hotel? I’d love to hear!
