Summer is coming up and as you know I love to spend a sunny day by the pool. There are many famous options – from Marina Bay Sand’s legendary rooftop pool in Singapore to the world’s biggest pool in San Alfonso de Mar in Chile. But the most famous pools aren’t always the best ones. Skip the obvious choices and get inspired for your next vacation by reading my favourite pool picks.
Andaz Maui at Wailea
Hawaii’s most stylish luxury resort has quickly become one of Maui’s hot spots. And so have their five – yes FIVE!- amazing pools. You can choose between three ocean-front cascading infinity pools, a lagoon pool and an adults only tranquility pool. At all pool areas you will enjoy a great service level with fluffy towels and an attentive team. Spend the day on one of the many comfortable loungers, soak up the island sun and order some of the most delicious pool food we’ve ever tasted. Same for their tropical cocktails – of course. (See hero image at the top of this post)
Palace Downtown Dubai
Skip Dubai’s mega resorts and go for this amazing property in Downtown Dubai instead. The pool is surrounded by arabesque tents and shady loungers as well as marvelous palm trees. Tranquil and never crowded it offers a welcoming change from the buzzing city life. Take a dip in the pool while enjoying incomparable views of the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building. And if swimming made you hungry order the hotel’s delicious falafel sandwich.(Psst! It is not on their pool menu anymore, but definitely worth the short wait!)
Sheraton Salobre Gran Canaria
Sheraton Salobre has seven marvelous pools (including one secret pool!) but this one clearly stands out: Set high above the Atlantic Ocean the hotel’s Sunset Pool offers stunning views of the surrounding mountains. Visit the swim-up bar and treat yourself to a delicious Mojito or tropical smoothie while feeling grateful for the ever sunny climate the Canary Islands have to offer. Stay for sunset (obvious, isn’t it) and experience a golden hour which is hard to forget.
Mandarin Oriental Las Vegas
When it comes to Vegas, pool choices are infinite and infinity pools are many. But none of them beats the pool at the Mandarin Oriental – at least not if you want to do Vegas like a grown-up. Located on the eighth floor of the city’s most serene luxury hotel you will feel like you’ve escaped sin city and arrived at zen city instead. Loungers and cabanas are spacious and comfortable and the service is hard to beat. The same goes for their pool menu. Try their Spa Water – a refreshing mix of Vodka, watermelon and cucumber – and enjoy a sunny afternoon while listening to finest chill-out tunes.
Al Maha Desert Resort and Spa Dubai
This list wouldn’t be complete without me talking private pools. And there is only one winner in this category: Al Maha Desert Resort in the Dubai sand dunes, a remote and luxurious all-suites resort. Every suite comes with a private, temperature controlled pool. Go for a swim while overlooking the dunes and you’ll have the chance to observe arabian oryx and gazelles. You will feel so remote and blissful you’ll hardly ever want to leave.
